Ron L. James
Ron L. James grew up in West Philadelphia, where a series of poor choices throughout his teens and young adulthood sent him down a slippery slope.
First selling and then using drugs, Ron spent twenty-five years in and out of prison while battling addictions to alcohol, prescription drugs, heroin and crack cocaine. He built a mile-long rap sheet, lived the fast life across several states, but when he finally ran out of second chances, Ron’s journey had only just begun. Embracing his faith, he committed to the hard work of turning his life around.
A series of mentors stuck by Ron, first in prison and then as he transitioned back into society. He has rewarded their investment in him with a new life as a published author, motivational speaker and mentor/life coach to those facing that same temptations that once threatened to destroy him.
Ron travels the country and is invited to schools, colleges, and law enforcement agencies, rehab facilities, and prisons to tell his story and spread his message: make your next choice your best choice.
Jeffrey L. Bortner met Ron through his longtime friendship with Ron's wife Annie. He was touched by Ron's story and after many years of running a successful business, JLB Engineering, he was at a point in his life where he wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. He became a trusted friend and mentor to Ron and is a driving force behind the establishment of the Your Choice Foundation.
The Your Choice Foundation was founded by Ron and Jeff to support Ron's efforts to deliver a message of hope, love and faith that inspires and motivates people around the country to make their next choice their best choice.
